BC Ferries names Queen of Burnaby’s replacement

The replacement ferry for the Queen of Burnaby has been named.

BC Ferries has announced that the new vessel for the Comox-Powell River run has been named the Salish Orca.

The company’s VP of Engineering, Mark Wilson, says there are some new features users can expect. The vessel will have the ability to run on LNG, which will reduce fuel costs and make the ship much more environmentally-friendly.

Wilson says the ship is being built in Poland, and BC Ferries is expecting it to be fully operational by fall of next year.
