Comox potential location for new SAR plane training centre

One of the teams bidding to build Canada’s new fixed wing search and rescue plane has chosen Comox as the location of its training centre, should it be the successful bidder.

The company is pitching the C27J Spartan to replace the aging Buffalo aircraft.

Senior Advisory Steve Lucas says they have decided that Comox is the best location to house the new training centre. He says the proximity to nearby mountain ranges and open water is excellent for training purposes.

The federal government is expected to make a decision on the Buffalo replacement this fall.
