“Salish Orca” newly named Comox to Powell River vessel

It’s official, B.C. Ferries trio of new European built vessels are going to be called the Salish Orca, Eagle and Raven, with a focus on traditional First Nations design.

Salish has been confirmed as the class name for all three of the intermediate-class vessels, being built right now in Poland.

Ferries kicked off a contest to name the vessels back in May, and a panel comprised of a dozen members chose the winners. More than seven thousand submissions came in.

The Salish Orca will be the first to hit the water, in late 2016 serving the route between Comox and Powell River, replacing the 50-year-old Queen of Burnaby.
