What a relief that recent rainfall was…good for our lawns and gardens and valley watersheds. However that is all ancient history now with the return of warm, dry weather conditions starting this weekend, as the long range 14-day forecast shows nothing but sunshine straight through into at least early August. Marg Drysdale at the Coastal Fire Centre has this update on regional conditions.

Drysdale suggests residents take full advantage of the recent lifting of the coastal campfire ban, suggesting it will make a comeback, just in time for the August long weekend coming up.

Meanwhile Drysdale says compared to other parts of BC, especially in the Southern Interior Region, Vancouver Island has dodged a bullet on any significant fire activity.

Due to several huge forest fires in the interior, this has been one of the more severe forest fire seasons in recent years, with daily firefighting costs hitting the 5-million dollar range.
