Reducing crime in the Comox Valley

In 2005, crime reduction strategies were introduced to the Comox Valley and surrounding areas.

The goal was to reduce crime on the streets and to apprehend prolific offenders. The Comox Valley detachment was one of the first to embrace the strategies, according to Constable Don Sinclair.

But what exactly is a prolific offender? Sinclair says it’s someone who has a history of committing the same type of crime, among other things.

In the past 12 months, the Crime Reduction Unit has located and arrested 448 people on outstanding warrants and have over 100 contacts related to 26 known prolific offenders.
