Fueling up on environmental awareness

When you gas up at the pump, the general thought is how much it’s going to cost.

But of course, there’s much more to filling up the tank than the dollar amount. There are many environmental impacts.

That was one of the messages brought to Courtenay council by Matt Hulse of Our Horizon.

The group is looking to add informational labels to gas pumps around the province, much like the general warnings you see on cigarette labels.

He says the group wants to help people change their attitude about gasoline consumption and how that affects the environment.

Hulse adds Our Horizon is looking to help make people more aware of how connected they are to one of the sources of the problem.

Hulse adds in a week’s time, at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention, council can vote YES for the gas labels.

He says this would result in a huge push to add these labels to gas pumps in the Comox Valley and around the province of British Columbia.
