Firefighters from all over the Island made their way to Comox this weekend for some live fire training sessions at the Comox Fire Training Centre.

Comox Fire Chief Gord Schreiner says firefighters from areas like Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Alert Bay and Tofino took part in a 2-day certification course.

Schreiner says the program has fighters going up against live fires in different scenarios at the Comox training centre to ensure they’re fully confident in their skills before heading out on the field.

Schreiner says the next course is this coming weekend. It will cover survival training and rescue technique. He adds they’ll be busy at the training centre every weekend from now until next summer.
