Fireworks rules and regulations

Fireworks are great for a show. The sound and excitement that comes from fireworks is like no other. But there are some rules and regulations to setting them off, according to Comox Valley Regional District rep Leigh Carter.

She says the City of Courtenay and the Town of Comox do not allow residents to set off fireworks within their boundaries.  With a permit obtained in advance, fireworks are allowed in the Village of Cumberland and in the rural areas of the CVRD.

Those permits can be found at the CVRD offices and Cumberland’s Village Hall.

She says fireworks in rural areas can be frightening for animals in rural areas.

Carter says to sell fireworks, you need to have a business or occupational license, and you need to store the fireworks in a safe place.
