CVRD looking for funds towards Waste Management capital spending

The regional district is asking for $69-million over the next 15 years for Comox-Strathcona Waste Management capital spending. The CVRD is suggesting the funds come from property taxes.

Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula says staff suggests a per-capita levy would be a better option. Jangula notes that staff believes it should be based on population and not the size of your property because “it’s [the number of] people that generate waste.”

Jangula says council agreed to request the district to consider an alternate approach to obtaining the funds.
