Cassie Sharpe wins gold at X Games in Oslo

Cassie Sharpe’s stellar career continues to skyrocket. The 23-year-old out of Comox put on an impressive performance at the X Games in Oslo – winning gold in the women’s ski superpipe competition.

It was only her second X Games appearance after her fourth-place finish at the Games in Aspen earlier this year. On her first run, Sharpe posted an impressive score of 86.00 but managed to top that during her second run, where she finished with a score of 88.33.

On her third and final run, Sharpe scored 87.33. Her second run high score was enough to hold off Olympic champion and four-time X Games gold medalist Maddie Bowman. The USA rep scored 85.33 for silver and Japan’s Ayana Onozuka earned a bronze medal with 83.66.

The event was the first X Games held in Oslo and the first time it’s been held in Europe since 2013.

Sharpe is the first Canadian woman to win gold in the superpipe event since Roz Groenwoud won double gold in 2012 by winning the titles in Aspen and Tignes.

Sharpe and her fellow halfpipe team members will next compete at an FIS World Cup in Tignes, France. The competition is scheduled for March 9-10.
