North Island College and Vancouver Island University are receiving funding to support co-op programs.
The funding was provided by the province to mark National Co-op Week.
NIC Coordinator for Work Integrated Education, Anita Budisa-Bonneau, says one of the focuses will be outreach into the business community to try and create more co-op opportunities for students.
She says co-ops provide invaluable experiences for students. She notes it provides a great forum to use the skills they’ve been taught in the classroom.

She adds it improves their confidence and start to build their network in the field they’d like to get into.
Both NIC and VIU are receiving $75,000 in one-time funding.
