BCTF calls for binding arbitration

BCTF President Jim Iker says teachers are taking the lead in a bid to end their labour dispute with the BC government.
He’s now proposing another way forward to end the dispute….binding arbitration. Goat News spoke with local teachers president Nick Moore.

The answer is basically “no”. Education Minister Peter Fassbender doesn’t appear to be overly interested in having the BC Teachers dispute resolved through binding arbitration.

“I have never been a fan of binding arbitration. I don’t think anyone in the labour relations field feels that that is a vehicle that really serves the interests of all parties.”

But Fassbender admits he hasn’t seen details of the BCTF proposal.
Fassbender also stressed he’s not going to agree to any deal for BC teachers that’s going to end up resulting in a tax hike for British Columbians.
