GP Vanier set for upgrades

G.P. Vanier Secondary in Courtenay is about to get some significant seismic upgrades.

The upgrades, first announced in 2012, have received approval from the province to move ahead.

Director of Operations for the Comox Valley School District, Ian Heselgrave, says the first step will be constructing new classrooms at the front of the school which will serve as swing space as the rest of the school is worked on.

He says they’re also going to build a new “super-lab” for the science department, with a new library being built, among other projects.

Construction will start this summer. Heselgrave says the entire project will take about 26 months.
