Cumberland is hosting the 31st annual Miners Memorial Weekend.

Anne Ranbow with the Cumberland Museum says the event recognizes Cumberland’s mining history and the history of labour activists in the region.

She says it’s a great way to learn about to coal mining history in the Village. She notes that it’s also a time for union members, artists, activists and other community members to come together.

She says that the coal mines in Cumberland were some of the most dangerous in Canada.

Ranbow says a number of events are scheduled throughout the weekend to mark the occasion. Further details can be found through the Cumberland Museum’s website.
