1 in 8 Canadian households are struggling to put food on the table, and Ottawa needs to step up to the plate and come up with a Federal Anti-Poverty Plan.
That from Peggy Wilmot, the Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast spokesperson for a national campaign dubbed, “Chew on This”.
Wilmot says several national groups have come together, including Dignity for All, and Canada Without Poverty, in calling on the federal government to produce an action plan to combat poverty, adding 833-thousand people visit a food bank each and every month, and 1 in 3 people helped by food banks in Canada are children.
Wilmot says the campaign goes this Friday October 17, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Wilmot is urging all BC residents to contact their local MP’s and pressure the feds to put together a national action plan on poverty.
