Public hearing set to discuss restricting paid parking

Courtenay council is working towards eliminating payed parking around the region.

Mayor Larry Jangula says nothing has been finalized, but a public hearing is set to take place next month regarding banning paid parking in PA3 and PA4 zones.

He notes the new hospital falls within the PA4 zone.

“People in hospitals who are recovering recover better if that have people that visit them and often the situation with paid parking limits those visits”, he says.

Jangula says council passed the first and second reading on the bylaw that would prohibit charging paid parking in those zones. A public hearing on the proposed bylaw will take place on April 3rd at council chambers. Jangula says after that hearing, council can have the third reading of the bylaw before it can be adopted.
