No charges laid in last month’s Courtenay shooting

Police in the Comox Valley continue their investigation into a late March shooting in Courtenay. A 31-year-old male was shot after an altercation broke out on Piercy Avenue on March 24th.

The victim was taken to local hospital, and later flown to a larger hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspects escaped in a vehicle but were found days later and arrested.

Comox Valley RCMP Constable Rob Gardner says it has been determined that the incident was not a random act of violence and the parties involved did know each other.

The victim has since declined police assistance. Gardner says that “although the suspects were initially arrested, they have since been released and charges have not yet been laid.”

Gardner notes the RCMP continue to work with the victim in the hopes of advancing the investigation. He says the local police detachment continues its commitment to safe homes and safe communities.
