Several closures due to flooding, RCMP warning drivers to slow down
There are several closures due to flooding in some low-lying areas of Courtenay. At this time, the following are closed:
Comox Road CLOSED from Highway 19A bypass (by Kia dealership) to Headquarters Rd.
5th Street Bridge CLOSED
Dove Creek Road may be closed at any moment.
– The Lewis Centre is CLOSED temporarily (parking lot is flooded)
– The LINC Youth Centre is CLOSED
– The Courtenay Riverway / Airpark Walkway is CLOSED
With the City of Courtney closing Comox Road at both ends due to flooding the CVRD head office is closed at least until noon.
Meanwhile Comox Valley RCMP are warning the motoring public of hazardous road conditions. Checks have been done of local roadways and highways and with the heavy amount of rain that has fallen, the roadways have water pooling in areas.
The chance of hydroplaning has risen significantly with the rising water, so police are advising the motoring public to adjust their speed accordingly and please slow down. The life you are saving might be your own.
There are several minor power outages in the Comox Valley, however in Campbell River about 2500 homes are without juice right now.
