City of Courtenay declares State of Emergency

The City of Courtenay has declared a state of emergency, and there are several closures from flooding in some low-lying areas of Courtenay…including Comox Road from Highway 19 A bypass to Headquarters Rd, the 5th Street Bridge is also closed.

The Lewis Centre, The LINC Youth Centre and the Courtenay Riverway / Airpark Walkway is also shut down due to flooding, along with Dove Creek Road at the Dove Creek Bridge.

Meanwhile Comox Valley RCMP are warning drivers to slow down…Constable Don Sinclair.

Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula says various agencies have worked together on the storm response, and says residents of Maple Pool Campground have been evacuated as a precaution.

There are several minor power outages in the Comox Valley but nothing major. Leave yourself lots of extra time in driving anywhere today, traffic is backed up in various areas including Ryan Road.
