Team North beats Team South in VIJHL prospects game
CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Storm player Dawson Frank scored the winning goal to give Team North the victory over Team South at the annual Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s (VIJHL) Prospects Game.
The Rob Brind’Amour Arena in Campbell River was packed as the league’s best players faced off in the yearly showcase.
The South squad were first on the board in the opening period, courtesy of a goal from Saanich Braves’ Zack Guerra. Victoria Cougar Mateo Albinati brought them up by two in the second frame.
The third period was all Team North. Campbell River Storm’s Ryan Butler scored at the 1:22 mark, assisted by Jalen Price and Reid Lindsay.
Price then went on to score and tie things up at 14:22. When the buzzer sounded at the end of the third, the score was still tied, sending the game into an extra period.
At the 4:25 mark of overtime, Dawson Frank sealed the deal on the comeback win for Team North.
Jalen Price was named as the North’s game star, while Zack Guerra was named the South’s game star.
The VIJHL said that close to 700 people were in attendance.
