No collision in Courtenay cyclist fatality

COURTENAY, B.C- The investigation into the death of a local man has been turned over to the B.C Coroners Service.

On Thursday, police announced that an unnamed 67 year old man from Courtenay had died after an “apparent cycling incident” on Wednesday evening.

The man had been found in a ditch by someone passing by in the 2000 block of Left Road in Courtenay. He was rushed to hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.

The RCMP’s General Investigation Service had been looking into what happened, along with the Coroner Service and he Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service. However, investigation revealed no vehicle involved in the death.

‘At this time we can confirm that there was no collision that caused this tragic incident,” stated Constable Rob Gardner, the Comox Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer.

The public was thanked for their assistance.
