COURTENAY, B.C- The Comox Valley Regional District wants to know more about smoke.
The regional government has launched a survey of local residents, asking how they heat their homes. The aim of the survey, according to the CVRD, is to find out what people think of the local air quality, and the wood burning practices in the winter months.
All residents are being asked to participate, regardless of their heat sources, and those who do can win a $250 gift card for Quality Foods.
The CVRD woodstove exchange program is also continuing to run, with residents encouraged to exchange their old stoves for updated models.
“The CVRD has received funding to continue the program in 2018, however the number of rebates available for new wood stoves has been reduced to provide more funding for cleaner heating sources,” read a release from the organization.
With added funding for cleaner heating, residents will have $600 rebates for gas or pellet stoves, with $1,000 for heat pumps.
“For those residents with non-certified wood stoves, these higher rebates can make a significant difference in making the switch to a cleaner heating option,” read the release.
“Rebates of $250 continue to be available for participants installing a new wood stove.”
