RCMP looking for witnesses to 2007 assault

COURTENAY, B.C- The RCMP in the Comox Valley are looking for any witnesses to a historical assault.

According to a news release from the local detachment, a man was assaulted behind what used to be the Courtenay House Hotel, located at 498 Old Island Highway, back on March 8th, 2007.

The assault took place during the evening, and the hotel has since been torn down. It was located in the area of George’s Food Bar.

Investigators are now looking for help from the public in order to figure out exactly what happened.

“We are looking for anyone who was in the area and might recall important details surrounding what

occurred” stated Constable. Monika Terragni, who works as the Media Relations Officer for the detachment.

“The man was left with severe injuries and is unable to tell police what happened.”

Terragni indicated that the investigation is meant to give the man closure about what happened, and that the detachment had looked at the file before.

“It’s not the first time, but the victim had some renewed hope that we might be able to find who assaulted him,” said Terragni.

“So he came in, and spoke with us, and we made the decision to open up an investigation and see if we could offer him the closure that he needs, and that he deserves.”

If anyone has any information regarding this assault, they are asked to call Constable Hall at the Comox Valley RCMP Detachment, (250) 338-1321 and refer to file 2017-16585.

The name of the man who was assaulted was not released by the RCMP.
