Extreme fire risk prompts CVRD chainsaw ban

COURTENAY, B.C- Power saws can’t be used in the Comox Valley until further notice.

According to an announcement from the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) a high risk of fire has led to a prohibition on power saws and other power tools that could create fire or sparks during the extremely dry conditions.

“Public health and safety as well as protection of property is our number one concern,” said the CVRD’s Manager of Fire Services, James Bast, in a district news release.

The prohibited activities include brush cutting with metal blades, as well as any kind of land clearing.
