Comox not-for-profits granted tax exemptions

COMOX, B.C. – Comox Town Council has adopted a bylaw that will grant permissive tax exemptions to 21 organizations in the town.

Among them are all of the land and buildings for the Filberg Lodge & Park, Archives & Museum, Pearl Ellis Art Gallery, Comox Lions Club, and Unity Comox Valley, Tennis Clubhouse, Comox Legion, d’Esterre Seniors Centre, and Pt. Holmes Boat Launch, and all of the float building for the Marine Rescue Station.

Other exemptions include 76 percent of land for the Comox Golf Course, half of the land and building for Tigger Too Day Care, and all of the land for the United Church, Pentecostal Church, Anglican Church, Bay Community Church, Presbyterian Church, The Views at St. Joseph’s, Nature Trust of BC, and 1582 Balmoral Ave.

The exemptions from taxation of land or improvements that are owned by a not-for-profit corporation will take effect in 2019, ’20, and ’21.

The combined estimated taxes are 2019 – $282,335; 2020 – $287,981; and 2021 – $293, 741.

The town’s share is 2019 – $150,274; 2020 – $153,281; and 2021 – $156,345.
