COURTENAY, BC- Movie lovers in the Comox Valley have a reason to rejoice today.
According to a press release from Landmark Cinemas Canada, the Rialto Theatre in Courtenay will be getting new “Premium Recliner Seating” in all four of the theatre auditoriums.
The seating upgrade will cover all of the theatre’s seating.
Construction begins today, and is scheduled to run until November 19th. The theatre will remain open during the renovation, and it’s expected that the first two renovated auditoriums will open by November 5th.
Additional renovations to the lobby and concession will be finished in January.
“The introduction of Premium Recliner Seating necessitates the reduction of overall theatre capacity, providing a significant increase in personal space and a more relaxing, disruption free movie-going experience,” read the release.
“Free Reserved Seating will also be part of the theatre’s premium offering.”
Bill Walker, the CEO of Landmark Cinemas Canada, said experiencing movie in recliner seating is a “gamechanger”.
“We are confident that movie lovers throughout Courtenay, and its surrounding regions, will embrace this new premium movie-going experience, providing a reason to enjoy the movies more often,” said Walker, in the release.
Landmark holds 45 cinemas and 317 screens throughout Western Canada, Ontario, and the Yukon.
