The VIJHL team hosted cross-town rivals the Campbell River Storm at the Comox Valley Sports Centre on Oct. 27th.
The game went down to the wire, and was a back and forth affair.
After the first period, the score was 1-1 with goals from Glacier King Ben Alexander (assisted by Noah Malthaner and Rick Takeda) and Storm Damon Porter, on an assist from Austin Dennison.
In the second period, Finn Withey gave Comox Valley a 2-1 lead at the 1:20 mark on a power-play goal. Before the sound of the buzzer, Reid Wheeldon scored.
Going into the third period, the game was tied at two goals apiece.
At the 6:04 mark, Ben Alexander scored his second goal of the game off an assist from Withey, making it 3-2 for the G-Kings.
The Storm weren’t done fighting, though. At 10:01, Scott Rademaker scored on the power-play off an assist from Logan Cursley and Reid Wheeldon.
That goal sent the game into an extra period.
At 19:55, Finn Withey played the hero, scoring his second goal of the game off an assist from Noah Malthaner.
With that, the Glacier Kings earned their first win of the season. The team’s record now sits at 1-14-0-1.
