Janice Caton elected chair at inaugural meeting of Comox Valley’s school board

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – Members of Comox Valley’s newly elected school board began its four-year term by taking their Oath of Office and electing a new board chair on Tuesday.

During the inaugural board meeting, Comox Valley Schools welcomed four new trustees to the board following the 2018 local elections.

They include Tonia Frawley, Town of Comox; Kathleen Hawksby, City of Courtenay; Sarah Jane Howe, Village of Cumberland; and Michelle Waite, Area B.

Returning trustees include Janice Caton, City of Courtenay, Ian Hargreaves, Area C and  Sheila McDonnell, Area A.

Also during the meeting, trustees voted Caton as the new Board Chair and Frawley as Vice Chair.

Each will serve a one-year term.

Regular monthly board meetings resume on Nov. 27 and will continue on the fourth Tuesday of every month until June.

Meetings begin at 7 p.m. unless otherwise stated.

On the Friday prior to each board meeting, the district will post the agenda on the school district’s website at www.comoxvalleyschools.ca.

The December meeting will be held on the third Tuesday to accommodate the winter break.

Comox Valley Schools Board of Education belongs to the BC School Trustee Association (BCSTA).
