Saturday deadline to submit a shoebox through Operation Christmas Child

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – There’s still time to fill a shoebox and brighten the life of a child in a developing country.

The local collection deadline for Operation Christmas Child is this Saturday, Nov. 17.

The Comox Valley collection centre, located at Comox Pentecostal Church, 1919 Guthrie Avenue, will be open to receive shoeboxes at the following times:

Thursday, Nov. 15 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Friday, Nov. 16 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Kara Walsh, team leader for the local OCC drive, thanked the Comox Valley families, businesses, churches, schools, and community groups who every year fill hundreds of little red shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children faced with poverty, disease, war, and natural disaster.

“For many children, this may be the first gift they have ever received,” Walsh said.

The red OCC shoeboxes are preferred, but any shoebox is fine.

A donation of $10 per box helps to cover the considerable cost of overseas shipping.

Operation Christmas Child is an annual initiative of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief and development organization.
