Sandwick Road opening for emergency access, pedestrians

COURTENAY, B.C- A closed route in eastern Courtenay will be opening in the near future.

Sandwick Road, which runs in front of the Comox Valley RCMP detachment and behind the former Canadian Tire building, is getting connected to a new apartment complex being built just north of the commercial complex.

The route will connect the complex’s parking lot south to the rest of the Valley’s road system, though it will only be used for emergency access and pedestrians at first.

According to Ian Buck, Courtenay’s director of development services, there will be a painted walkway for residents to use. Bollards will also be placed across the road’s intersection with the parking lot, which can be removed by emergency services if need be.

The route is currently blocked off by concrete barriers while construction is underway.
