Local artist donates work to support Quadra Cat Rescue

QUADRA ISLAND, B.C. – An artist and author from Campbell River is supporting a Quadra Island cat rescue charity.

Michael Duncan has gifted the copyrights for six original pieces of artwork of West Coast scenes to be reproduced as a selection of art cards.

The cards are available for $5 at Quathiaski Cove’s Inspirations. Proceeds from the sale of the cards will help Quadra Cat Rescue.

The funds will assist in covering vet bills, primarily the spaying, neutering and vaccination of cats in need on Quadra Island.

“It’s an ongoing struggle for our small group to make ends meet with the number of stray and abandoned cats that need fostering and medical care. Michael’s generosity is an amazing gift. We welcome the chance to showcase his art and applaud his commitment to helping animals,” said volunteer Valerie van Veen, in a release.

Duncan has donated art worth more than $38,000 to support animals, according to the release. His goal is to donate $50,000.

Earlier this year, he donated $1200 worth of artwork for fundraising to the BC SPCA’s Campbell River branch.

He’s also donated artwork to the BC SPCA’s Victoria branch, Nanoose Bay Catspan Society, Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs Society, Cat’s Cradle Animal Rescue in Sidney, Broken Promises Rescue in Victoria and MARS Wildlife Rescue in Merville.

It’s noted in the release that Duncan founded Artists – Helping Abused Animals following the passing of his rescued Australian Shepherd, Ellie.

“In memory of Ellie, and in an effort to prevent the kind of abuse she suffered before he adopted her, Michael donates original works of art to not-for-profit organizations that help abused or abandoned animals and service animals,” read the release.
