COURTENAY, B.C. – The Washington Park Shopping Centre in Courtenay could be home to a provincial cannabis retail store in the future.
In an email correspondence, the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) told MyComoxValleyNow.com that an application has been submitted for a BC Cannabis Store in the plaza on Ryan Road.
The shopping complex is known to many residents as the “Real Canadian Superstore plaza”.
The LDB said public consultation is currently underway, and a public information meeting was held in Courtenay on January 9th. Residents will also notice a rezoning sign on the plaza property.
“If approved, the LDB will design its BC Cannabis Store to be bright, clean, welcoming and professional, while creating a safe and favourable alternative to purchasing non-medical cannabis from the illicit market,” said the LDB.
The LDB noted that once the public consultation process is finished, Courtenay city staff will prepare a report and the application will be presented to council for consideration.
