Campbell River’s first cannabis retailer approved by council

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Campbell River’s first pot shop will open very soon.

Council approved the province’s recommendation to open a non-medical cannabis retailer on Monday’s meeting.

The proposed retailer will be located at The Village in Willow Point, right beside Discovery Foods in the plaza. The space was previously a liquor store.

During the meeting, Councillor Colleen Evans brought up a motion to change the store’s proposed hours of operation.

The applicant wanted the store to operate from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week. Councillor Evans put forward a motion to change the operating hours from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., which council approved.

Now that council has approved it, the application will be submitted back to the provincial Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch to be officially granted a license.

There is no word yet on when the retailer will officially open, but now that it has been approved, acquiring the license and opening will be smooth sailing.
