Three treated for smoke inhalation after Courtenay house fire

COURTENAY B.C- Bystanders watched fire crews battle a house fire in Courtenay Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to 2179 Morello Place just after 1:30pm this afternoon in response to a structure fire.

Upon arriving on scene they witnessed flames coming from the roof of the building.

The fire is believed to have started on the outside of the house, then spread to the roof, causing it to collapse, according to fire chief Don Bordonnex.

Two occupants were at home at the time, both were treated for minor smoke inhalation. One occupant neighboring the rear of the house had to be evacuated and also treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Fire chief Bardonnex added that the fire was put out quickly once crews arrived.

“Three engines, one ladder truck and 27 firefighters on scene, and a quick knockdown.”

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. We will have more information as it becomes available.
