Temporary food services at North Island hospitals for now: Island Health

CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – Rocky Mountain Coffee Co. has closed its branches in the Comox Valley and Campbell River hospitals.

Visitors to the Comox Valley and Campbell River hospitals will find that there is no cafe at each hospital campus anymore.

Island Health media and government relations advisor Dominic Abassi said the health authority is focusing on providing temporary food services to visitors.

“Right now, we have a temporary set up being run by Island Health staff. We’re offering assorted sandwiches, baked goods, fresh fruit, grab-and-go items,” Abassi said.

He said items can be purchased with cash only.

“As it stands right now, that is our plan moving forward. We’re having discussions internally about long-term planning and what may happen in terms of retail food services.”

Abassi said Island Health hasn’t made a decision on who to bring in just yet, or when.

Patient food services remain unaffected by Rocky Mountain Coffee Co’s closure at the hospitals.
