COURTENAY, B.C- Residents of downtown Courtenay had a bit of excitement on Wednesday night.

After an alarm went off at the strip mall complex close to the intersection of 8th Street and England Avenue around 10:40 p.m., the Courtenay fire department quickly responded with multiple firefighters, a fire engine, and an aerial truck.

Once on scene, firefighters inspected the building and didn’t locate any smoke. The cause of the alarm is not clear, but there was no fire at the complex.

Crews cleared the area just after 10:40 p.m.
