1st annual Cumberland Naked Bike Ride all set for June 8th

CUMBERLAND, B.C – The Cumberland Naked Bike Ride is set to take place on Saturday, June 8th.

It will be the first of its kind in the Village of Cumberland.

Event organizer Jessie Levene has attended similar events in the United Kingdom and she thinks they would be good here in the valley.

“I’d always thought that this would be a good place to do the World Naked Bike Ride,” said Levene.

“They’ve been running for years and years. The idea is to celebrate cycling, celebrate bikes and also to highlight carbon dependency, (and to) protest against dependency on fossil fuels by encouraging people to cycle more.”

Levene added that you don’t need to be naked to participate, as long as you’re there for a good time.

“You don’t have to be naked at all, there is no dress code enforced, or lack of dress code, anyone can come.”

“There will be music, and it’s really a fun event.”

The group plans to stage in Cumberland Village Park at 10:00 a.m and then around 11:00 a.m Levene says the group will ride down main street, and head down to Comox Lake to complete the ride.

More information and updates on the event can be found on their Facebook Page, located here.
