Falling tree sparks fire near Campbell River

NORTH ISLAND, B.C. – A small forest fire has popped up north of Campbell River.

Coastal Fire Centre information officer Dorthe Jakobsen says Mother Nature was to blame for the 0.25-hectare fire, about 40 kilometres north of the city at Amor de Cosmos Creek.

“It was quite windy there and a tree fell on some power lines and took them down, and the vegetation was set alight,” Jakobsen said. The fire, which was sparked early Tuesday night, is being held. It is adjacent to Highway 19A north of Elk Falls Provincial Park and south of Sayward.

Flaggers were on site this morning. Jakobsen calls the fire is “a minor incident.”
