KFN marks National Indigenous Peoples Day

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – Tomorrow is National Indigenous Peoples Day.
To mark the occasion, K’ómoks First Nation is welcoming everyone to their annual celebration.
Featuring artisan vendors, information booths, traditional food, a toonie auction, and more, the event runs from 3:00pm to 8:00pm tomorrow at 3320 Comox Road.
The Family Zone includes a variety of activities starting at 3:00pm, and traditional games from 4:30 to 5:30pm.
In the Bighouse, there will be a traditional welcome at 4:00pm followed by artists’ dialogue at 5:45pm and a performance by Kumugwe dancers at 7:00pm.
Catch an Indigenous hip-hop performance at 4:30pm featuring Native with Pride and Maximum Gane.
In the gym, visit the Reconciliation Station and KDC Health Photo Booth and Toonie Auction from 3:00 to 8:00pm.
The day was first created in 1996 under the name National Aboriginal Day.
On June 21, 2017, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the renaming of the event to National Indigenous Peoples Day.
