The district says fireworks will be available for purchase starting this Thursday until November 1st and must be bought from a commercially zoned retailer. Manager of Bylaw Compliance Amanda Yasinski says not having a permit before setting off fireworks could be costly. “Failure to have a permit is a $500 fine. It is also important to please respect your neighbours and let them know beforehand if you are planning on setting off fireworks to help reduce the possibility of frightened children and animals.” Permits will be available online or at the Comox Valley Regional District’s office for ten dollars. Applicants must be at least 18 and once the permit is approved you can only set off fireworks on property owned by the permit holder. If you want to set off fireworks on private property, written consent from the property owner must be provided. For more information on fireworks permits within the CVRD, click here.
