Nursing student cleaning up Puntledge River shoreline

A fourth-year NIC Bachelor of Science in Nursing student is inviting volunteers to join her in cleaning up the Puntledge River.

Brandi Berry is the coordinator for the upcoming clean-up and says the cleanup ais a great way to educate and address environmental concerns.

“This work will help create a cleaner environment and I am hoping to provide some teachings about the Indigenous view of land to raise awareness and share knowledge. By coming together, we can make a healthier environment for generations to live, learn and play in,” said Berry.

The cleanup is not only a part of her student leadership project but also helps keep the environment clean while sharing her insights as a Cree woman.

She says the cleanup will be off near the Puntledge River in Puntledge Park this Tuesday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Volunteers are needed for the cleanup and are much appreciated.

Berry says buckets, garbage grabbers and gloves will be provided but you are encouraged to dress appropriately and bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

If you are interested in taking part in the cleanup, volunteers are asked to sign up and sign waivers available here.
