Local comedian tackling mental health with laughs

A Vancouver Island comedian is looking to tackle mental health with some laughs.

Peter Hudson is a Vancouver Island comedian hoping to raise awareness and help shed the stigma of mental health by hosting a show in Courtenay next weekend.

It will take place Saturday night at the Mex Pub.

Hudson says during the winter, many of us can get down and the best way to combat that is laughter.

“It’s so important to laugh. I’m trying to cater it to seasonal depression. We get down and this can be a really rough time for people here and laughter is the best thing you can do…it’s just so healthy for us.”

Partial proceeds from all the shows across the island will be heading to the Vancouver Island Crisis Society.

Hudson added that the show brings everyone together to have fun and talk about serious issues that effect everyone everyday.

“I’ve had people who come to the shows who have lost people to the opioid crisis, I’ve lost friends to depression and suicide. We just have to work together as humans and if were having issues hopefully we got to talk about these things, it’s very important, said Hudson.
