The message to avoid getting behind the wheel if you’re impaired, isn’t getting through to a few drivers in the Comox Valley.
Throughout December, Comox Valley RCMP set up check stops to take impaired drivers off the roads.
More than 1,000 vehicles passed through these stops and a few violation tickets were handed out, along with one 24-hour driving prohibition.
Overall, the RCMP reported that many designated drivers had been identified to get people home safely.

But outside the check stops,16 impaired drivers were handed 30-day driving prohibitions and 90-day vehicle impounds.
