The CRTC has given the final go ahead that will allow you to buy a basic 25 dollar a month cable TV or satellite package and then pick and pay options beyond that…the bottom line, you don’t have to pay for channels you don’t want.
The move green lights the so-called “skinny basic” option. The cable package is capped at 25 bucks a month and will consist of local stations and some mandatory channels.
Subscribers will choose the channels they want to add on, and either pay for them individually set up their own bundles, the so-called “pick a pack” or “pick-and-pay” option.
The CRTC is giving the cable industry some time to adjust to the new rules, rolling them out gradually over the next year and a half before they become mandatory in December 2016.
