Campbell River skier killed in Blackcomb accident

A Campbell River skier has died.

18-year-old Cole Anderson passed away Saturday after falling off a cliff on Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler.

The Timberline Secondary senior had achieved a fair bit in the world of competitive skiing before his death. In 2013, he picked up gold in the Under-16 category at the Teck BC Coast Zone Competition.

It’s believed that he was skiing on a trail next to the Black Diamond Run in Crystal Ridge, when he went too far into an unmarked area and fell off the edge of the cliff.

This is the second fatal accident at the ski resort this year.

On February 18th, the body of an Ontario snowboarder was found in the treed area of Harmony Bowl.

In both incidents, the skiers were wearing helmets.
