A group of car enthusiasts on Vancouver Island are doing what they can to help support frontline workers.
The ‘Cars4Covid’ Facebook page has members from all over Vancouver Island ranging from Courtenay and Comox to Nanaimo and Victoria who are focused on raising money and showing support for those still at work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Erik Vierstra is the manager for the Comox Valley section of the group.
He says the goal is to sell ‘Cars4Covid’ decals to anyone who wants one and have all the money head directly to COVID-19 research.
“We’re selling decals for a minimum five dollar donation each. It’s not mandatory to have a decal, but it’s for a good cause. It’s up to you if you want to put the decal on your vehicle or on your toolbox, or if you even want a decal. It’s up to you,” says Vierstra.
He added that if you don’t want to purchase the decals you can donate directly on the group’s Facebook page.
Vierstra says like many others in the community, at 7:00pm this Saturday, the group will drive past the Comox Valley Hospital to show support.
“We want to make sure it’s a safe cruise, no burnouts or anything like that. Just enjoy each other so-called ‘company’ in our vehicles and then at the same time showing our support for all the first responders, people on the front lines, up to even the people who are still working in the grocery stores and the essential places that they’re putting themself at risk.”
