Veterans Memorial Parkway receiving upgrades starting next week

Courtenay says it’s starting its major road maintenance for the year next week.

The city is preparing for a paving project on Veterans Memorial Parkway that will reinforce and thicken the road surface and improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.

The work will also include the sidewalk from Valley View Estates to the existing gravel multi-use pathway, and improve the bus stop at Caledon Crescent.

New pedestrian flashing lights will be installed at the crosswalk at Caledon Crescent.

The city says the project will feature a new road marking installation technique resulting in highly visible and extremely durable markings, lasting on average 7 to 10 years before requiring any maintenance.

Which means lower long-term costs for taxpayers, and fewer future travel delays for motorists.

Paving is planned to start next Monday, with painting taking place the week after. You might see some delays as the road will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the whole process.
