The Comox Fire Department’s Live Fire Training Centre is going full tilt these days, with dozens of firefighters from around the region being put through the paces on various training regimes.

We spoke to Comox Fire Chief Gord Schreiner, who says there has been a huge response to a hazardous materials course being offered up for the next few weekends at the Live Fire Training Centre.

Schreiner says fire crews from all over the region will be taking that HAZMAT course, including Campbell River and Powell River firefighters.

The Comox Live Training facility has teamed up with the Justice Institute of BC on various firefighter training sessions.

Schreiner says there is no shortage of positive reviews from the students, who no longer have to make the trip to Vancouver for a wide range of training regimes.
