Local organization helping cover vet costs for tortured cat

A Comox Valley family is in shock after their cat was found tortured, covered in oil, and thrown into a trash bin.

But a local organization is doing what it can to ease the pain.

The seven-year-old cat, named Miya was discovered by kids in a housing complex garbage bin Monday night. She was found with duct tape around her neck and face and was covered in what appeared to be cooking oil.

The cat was cut free of the duct tape but managed to escape and volunteers spent over four hours searching for her before returning her to the family.

They then did their best to clean the oil but decided to reach out to Kitty Cat P.A.L.S (Prevent A Litter Society) for a helping hand.

Executive Director Lee-Ann Dixon-Phillips says it’s terrible to see and hear what happened.

“It is most definitely a devastating situation. The owners of the cat did reach out to us looking for help in any way we could offer to them, right down to just bathing her and how do we get all this oil off of her.”

She added that the organization is offering to pay any vet bills the family might have to face to get Miya back to tip-top-shape.

“This sweet cat is seven years old, very friendly, very sweet, a little out of sorts right now and definitely needing some vet care which we’ve offered to help with.”

Dixon-Phillips says they are also accepting donations to help cover any expenses for the family as well.

If you would like to donate to help Miya, you can reach out to Kitty Cat P.A.L.S at 250-971-7257 or by visiting their website
