MEGAN PENNEY

How long have you been a trainer:

Since 2014

How long has your partner owned BodyNetix:

Since 2014 with the original founder, and 2015 with the awesome trio!

Favourite Exercise or type of exercise:

I love complex/combination exercises that engage more than one body part! I also love burpees, ball slams & lat pull downs!

Where do you find your inspiration for creating workouts/classes:

I like to find a balance between strength and cardio. Sometimes I am really ‘busy’ and have all the exercises, other times I like to challenge clients to push the amount of weight they use and slow it down using a superset of antagonistic muscles. I enjoy being able to offer classes that are easily modified for all fitness levels or injuries.

Favourite “down time” activity:

Mountain Biking or Hiking in the forest with my tribe, and gardening.

Favourite Superhero:

That’s a hard one! I love the X-Men! Wolverine is 100% my favourite – he is super bad ass, but also very vulnerable! But Dr. Jean Grey is pretty fantastic – she is tough and very intelligent!

If you could have a super power what would it be:

Of course, I would like to be invincible! But with that must come the power of healing others from illness and injury!

First Job:

As a young teen, berry picking. Before starting college, I took a gap year and worked as a customer service rep at Superstore in Metrotown… I went back to school really quickly! I think it is good for young people to take a gap year and work at really terrible jobs while trying to live on their own, it made me a way better student!!!!!!!

Most inspirational gym moment:

For me personally? Or from a trainer perspective?

Personally, that is a hard one – I love everything and am not great at any specific thing. But when I hit the trails in Cumberland to mountain bike or go for a run, I know I can because I am strong enough and fit enough, and that is my inspiration to keep getting stronger. Away from BodyNetix I also practice Muay Thai, for me doing my black belt test was one of the most fulfilling and amazing experiences – it was physically gruelling, it was also humbling to realize that I was only at the beginning of a journey and that I could only continue to get better and better.

As a trainer I love watching the changes in people that they are not even aware of! Complexion, shape, strength, faster running – all of it is inspirational!

Most inspirational client moment:

I work with a number of small groups. One was a group of adult women that had not done ‘the gym thing’ ever. One of the ladies could not do a sit up and with progression, consistent training & perseverance she did… and when she did her first full sit-up ever she burst into tears.

What is your favourite “healthy meal” :

Vegan Buddha Bowls with quinoa, roasted tofu, loads of greens and veggies topped with homemade nutritional yeast or homemade ‘goddess’ dressing!

What is your favourite “Comfort food”:

Where do I start… Mexican, ramen, red lentil dahl or Thai coconut curry – all made by me!

MEGAN COFIELD

How long has your partner owned BodyNetix:

Favourite Exercise or type of exercise:

Leg Day is my fav! Squat variations and Lunge variations.

Where do you find your inspiration for creating workouts/classes:

I try things out on my own (new things), I’ll look online as well and see others stuff for more inspiration. I follow a lot of fitness/health folks on social media so I’m always seeing new ideas.

Favourite “down time” activity:

Down time activity…reading/learning something or trying new recipes.

Favourite Superhero:

Anyone female!

If you could have a super power what would it be:

Make things ‘appear’…like dinner!

First Job:

Cleaning a restaurant…11 years old. (probably didn’t do a great job)

Most inspirational gym moment:

Watching myself, or others, gain strength and be proud of what they’re now capable of doing!

Most inspirational client moment:

Seeing a clients weight loss of 100lbs then running 1/2 marathon.

What is your favourite “healthy meal”:

A really yummy veggie bowl. (mine!)

What is your favourite “Comfort food”:

RAIDA BOLTON

How long have you been a trainer:

Certified personal trainer and certified group fitness instructor for 6 years.

How long have you partner owned BodyNetix:

Just over 5 years.

Favourite Exercise or type of exercise:

Leg day!

Where do you find your inspiration for creating workouts/classes:

Online, social media, watching kids play, and just experimenting!

Favourite “down time” activity:

I planted a vegetable garden for the first time this year, and puttering in it is my new favourite down time activity. Also, I love to hike…although I do love a beautiful mountain view; I particularly love to hike along the coast close to the ocean.

Favourite Superhero:

I’m gonna go old school and say Superman. I love how he’s the unassuming Clark Kent: quiet, calm, shy; and then when he’s needed by someone – BOOM! He’s Superman!

If you could have a super power what would it be:

I think I’d like to fly. Although I haven’t jumped out of an airplane or anything like that, I still think flying would be so great. You’d be able to get to so many places so quickly and the view while your getting there would be amazing!

First Job:

Pinsetting at a bowling alley. $2.25 a game, I feel like we should have received danger pay also. Pins went flying everywhere sometimes. This historic bowling alley is still operating, and one day I’d like to go play a game there.

Most inspirational gym moment:

This is going to sound very cliché. My inspirational gym moments come daily, and are when I see people doing things they never thought they could, lifting a heavier weight, holding a plank their longest, jumping their highest, or even jumping with both feet.

Most inspirational client moment:

There are so many! But one that stands out recently is a client that has been diagnosed with osteoporosis; we have been working on her strength to protect and support her bones, particularly her spine. She has always been balance challenged. She tells me she now goes up and down the stairs without holding on to the railing, and she can stand up without pushing on her thighs, and she’s learned how to lift things in ways that will protect her back. I love – love -love making clients quality of life better!

What is your favourite “healthy meal”:

A nice big fresh salad! AND since learning to garden, I found out: when you grow your own salad veggies they just taste so so good!

What is your favourite “Comfort food”:

There’s this really great vegan baker in town, and her treats are definitely my go-to for a feel-good comfort food.
